The Mylapore Trio – Amarnath, Surendranath, Aparna – are celebrating the 71st Navarathri kolu from Oct.15 to 24 at their residence in R. A. Puram with a themed kolu, as they always do annually.
This year, the kolu design is themed “PANCH PADI OONJAL KOLU” (5 swinging steps). It is based on both tradition and innovation.
The five oonjal steps are designed like a pyramid. These oonjals are covered with traditional mats and are filled with the dolls of a traditional kolu – Ganesha, Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswathi, Shiva, Vishnu, Dasavatharam, Marapaachi pair, Chettiyar and Chettichi.
