Inside Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore now, the spotlight is on the Ambal and everybody, the daily devotees as well as guests and tourists, heads to where the goddess is placed for the Navaratri festival.
In the Navaratri mantapam in the south side of the temple.
The festival itself is a rather quiet celebration in the temple.
Every evening, the goddess is in a new alankaram – on day one evening, fresh jasmine flowers adorned her. And people line up in front of her and pray in quiet.
Closeby, volunteers have set up a themed display symbolising the festival, with rangolis and themed decoration on the fringe.
