Retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, C. K. Gopalakrishnan passed away on September 5. He was 90 years old.
He belonged to the 1958 batch of IRS officers of the Customs and Excise department and retired as Principal Collector of Customs and Central Excise (Madras).
He completed his undergraduate education in economics in Vivekananda College, with honours. He joined the Accountant General’s Office in its clerical cadre and later, cleared the Union Public Service exam for civil services and was assigned to the Customs and Excise department in the Indian Revenue Service in 1958.
He worked at many cities in India.
“Our family has been living in the house where we are, in Thiruvengadam Street, Mandaveli ( No.19/10 Thiruvengadam St.: near South Madras Gas Agency) since the early 1950s,” said his son, Mohan Gopalakrishnan who is in the IT field.
Gopalakrishnan had his last posting in Chennai and retired from service in 1992.
In his retirement, he undertook consulting work on the customs and excise side for clients.
He is bereaved by wife Jaya, son Mohan and daughter, Radhika Subramanian ( who is in California, USA).
