If you are a fan of Karnataka Boli and savouries, here is some good news – there is a new eatery at Raja Annamalai Puram – Udupi Boli House – which opened recently and you may want to check out.
The shop has live Boli counters and serves as per the customer’s preference. They have a variety of options like coconut boli, dal boli, dates boli, Kova boli, carrot boli, pineapple boli, sugar ghee boli, badam boli, jack fruit boli, poppy seeds boli, gulkand boli and anjura boli. The price of the boli starts from Rs 18/- per piece.
The shop also serves pheni and badam milk and chiroti and badam milk combinations. There is no provision for seating in the shop and so, customers prefer to either take away or stand and have a quick bite.
“This is my first business venture. My grandfather and father were running hotels. I have worked with my uncle, father and grandfather. To honour my Udupi roots, I have named it as the Udupi Boli House. The food items will have authentic Karnataka flavours in it,” says Gopal Krishna, the owner of the eatery, who moved to Chennai for job reasons about 7 years ago.
He says he has worked in textile, dairy and FMCG industries before deciding three months back to plunge into business.
Ask him what is the difference between Tamil Nadu Boli and Karnataka Boli, he says that the stuffing is more in the former while the boli is thinner in the latter.
“We open the shop at 9 am and it takes about an hour to get the stuffings ready. After that, we make Bolis fresh upon each order. We have a 50:50 Boli where customers can choose two filling in the Boli,” says Gopal Krishna.
Udupi Boli House also sells savouries like mixture, murukku, thattai, chips, groundnut masala and chana dal masala.
“All the food items here will have authentic Karnataka flavours and will be fresh. All my chefs are from Bengaluru. As of now, we send the items to the customers through Dunzo. We will be on board Swiggy and Zomato soon,” says Gopal Krishna.
