Preliminary work on the Luz stations of Chennai Metro’s Phase II project has begun now.
Two areas on either side of Luz Circle, one on Kutchery Road and another alongside the Sri Navashakthi Vinayaka Temple have been barricaded.
The sprawling plot of land at the north side of the junction of Luz Church Road and Royapettah High Road, opposite Vivek’s store is now barren, with buildings on this plot demolished and barricading the plot is on now. ( photo below)
This will be a key work zone for the Luz Metro station. A bhoomi puja was held here last week.
Chennai Metro officials have said that work on the twin-stations that will service two rail lines underground will be taken up much later since this is a busy junction and the project is challenging too.
