The recently-held J.Seetharaman Memorial Concert was a perfect tribute to a passionate connoisseur of Carnatic music.
Retired senior executive from Reserve Bank, J. Seetharaman was not only an ardent rasika but could also quickly assess the strength and calibre of the performing artiste. He would hop to sabhas and listen to even young, budding artistes.
So his children, Abiramapuram-based Chitra Sivakumar and her brothers S. Ravindran and S. Vaitheeswaran set up an endowment fund to mark his birth centenary – August 27, 2023 – that will support an annual concert every year on his birthday by young artistes.
As. J. Seetharaman was an ardent fan of senior artiste, vocalist Sudha Ragunathan, the family joined hands with her to carry out this task under the banner of Samudhaaya Foundation, a charitable organisation headed by Sudha Ragunathan.
At the tribute concert event last week held at TAG Centre, AlwarpetA, Sudha Ragunathan said that she was truly blessed to spearhead this wonderful gesture.
S. Vaitheewaran, who shared interesting anecdotes about his father J. Seetharaman, mentioned that it was music that kept his father cheerful till his last.
Vocalist Kruthi Bhat presented the concert of the evening.
