Madras Day 2023: events in Mylapore zone. Walks. Talks. Quiz. Etc.

While over 70 events are scheduled in August ( and more will be added soon) to mark the celebration of Madras Day – an annual celebration wholly voluntary and organised by various people / groups, a few will be held in Mylapore too.

Here are the brief details of these events ( more details can be had at the web site –  www.themadrasday.in)

(( )) PROJECT CONTEST FOR SCHOOLS

On Monday, Aug.14, teams from 12/14 city schools will make PP presentations on the theme ‘Old Houses of Chennai’. The teams had to locate two old houses and study their features. It will be held from 9.30 am onwards at Ranade Library, Sastri Hall campus, Luz. This annual event is supported by Mylapore Times and by SINA.

(( )) MYLAPORE STORIES FOR KIDS

On Sunday, August 13, scholar-historian Pradeep Chakravarthy will share with children ( students in classes 7, 8 & 9 can take part, with their parents) a few stories that will bring alive the history of the core of Mylapore. Free. Starts at 4.30 p.m. outside the entrance of Rasi Silks store ( Sannidhi Street, Mylapore) and ends inside Sri Kapali Temple.

(( )) SERIES OF TALKS

Arkay Centre, R. H. Road, Luz is hosting a series of talks, all focused on Chennai’s heritage / personalities / landmark events. Some of the talks are – On famed actor N S Krishnan – talk by Venkatesh Ramakrishnan on Aug.15, 6.45 pm; ‘Writer Chudamani in Chennai’ – talk by Prabha Sridevan, Aug.16, at 5.30; ‘Temples in and around Chennai – talk by Chithra Madhavan on Aug.17, 5.30 p.m. Open to all.

(( )) MADRAS QUIZ IN THAMIZH FOR CITY SCHOOLS

This annual quiz is open to teams from city Thamizh medium schools. Teams of two can take part. The quiz is conducted by R. Revathi and supported by Mylapore Times and SINA. Starts at 3 p.m. at Ranade Library, Luz. Enquiries can be made at 24982244.
