To mark World Environment Day, seniors who attend Dignity Foundation’s Mullima Nagar Day Care Centre off the Marina did a bit of greening at the civic park in Foreshore Estate.
Members, some of whom were in colourful attire, planted saplings in the Chennai Corporation Park which is diagonally opposite the MTC bus terminus.
They also held placards that spoke of the importance of preserving nature and protecting the environment – to share these messages with passersby in the park zone.
On that stiflingly hot day, the seniors gamely planted the saplings and then adjourned for a meal at the centre which is located off Marina Loop Road.
Women and men from the seaside colonies here, who attend this centre take part in fun and community activities that enables them to stave off boredom and loneliness, take part in simple group actions and seek help in emergencies.
