School zones come alive on re-opening day. Daytime temperature remains high despite spells of rain.

School zones in the Mylapore area are abuzz this Monday morning as the twice-postponed re-opening happened even as the daytime temperature is not going down save for some thunder and short spell of rain.

The Mada Streets saw rows and rows of students of Lady Sivaswamy Ayyar Girls School headed, in some order to their campus.

Students of schools in that zone also walked down and when cyclists, motorists and vans began to ferry students here, the streets saw mini jams.

San Thome zone was also abuzz what with six major schools re-opening this morning.

At St Raphael’s Girls School, nuns and teachers greeted some students, some exchanged flowers too and then, there was a special Assembly and prayer, songs and a motivational speech too as the students gathered at the stage on campus.

From the Light House end to Pattinapakkam end, the high road and its pavements were packed.

So also was the zone around St. Anthony’s Girls School on Madha Church Road, Bheemana Street in Alwarpet where the GCC Chennai Hr. Secondary School is located and V. P. Koil Street where Chennai High School is located.

Traffic doubled on Royapettah High Road as motorists ferried students to some five schools in that area of Mylapore.
