State electricity minister Senthil Balaji, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, now under judicial custody, was moved by ambulance to Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet late Thursday.
At the end of a long interrogation by the ED at his residence on Wednesday-Thursday, he was admitted to the Government Multi Super-Specialty Hospital, Omandurar, where he underwent a coronary angiogram and was advised surgery at the earliest.
His family opted for further treatment at Kauvery and the court allowed this.
Since 7 p.m. on Thursday, a small posse of policemen was posted at the gate of the Alwarpet hospital and the men have remained at this post since.
The minister is being investigated for a jobs scam when he was transport minister in the previous AIADMK government.
