The hugely respected former IAS officer, P. Sabanayagam who passed away on Thursday, was given police honours at his funeral from his residence in Bishop Gardens in R. A. Puram on Friday ( June 23).
He was 101 years old.
Sabanayagam served as private secretary to Rajaji and went on to work in key posts under four chief ministers of Tamil Nadu – K. Kamaraj, M. Bhaktavatsalam, C. N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi.
He was the state’s chief secretary from 1971 to ’76. He then moved to Delhi to serve in the central government and retired in 1980.
He is grieved by two sons and a daughter, she being senior Bharatanatyam artiste Meenakshi Chittaranjan.
