The statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Marina lawns is back in the public eye now.
But it has been relocated on to a new pedestal and can be seen better from the Marina service road that runs inside the beach zone.
The statue, a popular landmark, had to be relocated due to work on the Light House station of Chennai Metro’s Corridor 3 rail line. It was first encased and there was talk that it would be shifted to another location on / off the Marina.
A large section of the Marina lawns and a slice of the main road and service road have been taken over for Chennai Metro work.
