A new long-term Joint Commissioner (JC) will be appointed at Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple before the end of the month, HR & CE Minister P. K. Sekar Babu told Mylapore Times on Wednesday at the HR & CE headquarters.
The previous JC D. Kaveri who had served as the executive officer ( EC) of the temple for over a decade passed away in December last year. Following her sudden demise, R Hariharan, who had previously been holding the post of Verification – DC took temporary charge as the EO (https://www.mylaporetimes.com/2022/12/new-exec-officer-takes-charge-at-sri-kapali-temple/).
Given that this is one of the richest and busiest temples in the state, the appointment of a full-fledged permanent JC is key.
Citing the reason for the delay, Sekar Babu said that three JCs had retired recently and three more are to retire shortly. He said the promotion panel to the JC grade was under process and will happen soon.
Over the recent years, Sekar Babu has taken a number of initiatives for the Kapaleeswarar Temple including setting up a large LCD screen that telecasts pradosham, initiating the live webcast of hundi counting, setting up of a new book stall inside the temple complex and digitisation of ticket sales.
Under his guidance, the Maha Sivarathri event has seen two years of the grandest celebrations in 2022 and 23 with non-stop 12 hour cultural programme at the erstwhile PS School ground (https://www.mylaporetimes.com/2023/02/sri-kapali-temple-maha-sivarathri-celebrations-through-the-night-feb-18/).
