After rains, large puddles of water at Alphonsa playground dampen youths who play here

After the steady rainfall in the past hours, the hugely popular Alphonso playground on the South Canal Bank Road, Mandavelipakkam, presents a sorry picture.
There were large puddles of water when we visited after 11 a.m. This made it impossible for youths who are having their summer holidays, to play here.

“As a result of this condition of the ground, I cannot play here today,” said Leander, a boy who is not yet in his teens and was hanging around the playground.

This ground is managed by Chennai Corporation but popularly known as Alphonsa ground; it has been once home to many popular football teams who practiced here.

The Mylapore MLA has promised some additional facilities here. He said a skating rink and silambam training space was asked for among other requests.
