In a first of its kind in Chennai, the St. Thomas Cathedral Basilica in Mylapore hosted the Madras Musical Association Choir on the Sunday, April 23. 23 for an evening of sacred music.
It was a landmark occasion for the 128-year-old MMA Choir, to be performing in a historic and sacred location in their home city.
Conducted by Augustine Paul and Ebenezer Arunkumar, the MMA Choir presented six movements from Franz Schubert’s Mass in G and sacred motets like Pie Jesu and Ave Maria. Accompanied by Jeremiah Christopher, the evening’s repertoire also included a Malayalam and Tamil song.
For the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ and the final choral blessing, the choir performed from the loft at the rear end of the Basilica.
