The heart of a brain dead patient in a private hospital in Coimbatore was retrieved and transported via air to Chennai Kauvery Hospital for a transplant on Saturday night in a matter of hours.
The organ was shifted within 15 minutes via a green corridor created from Chennai International Airport to Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, says a note from the hospital.
The organ shifting was overall completed within 1.5 hours.
The staff of Airport Authority of India at Coimbatore and at Chennai, and Chennai Traffic Police personnel made this transport seamless – as reducing travel time of donated organs increases the success of transplantation substantially.
