West Circular Road in Mandaveli is to be re-named. It will soon be called T. M. Sounderarajan Salai, in memory of the famous singer who was known for evergreen songs in the film world as well as spiritual songs.
This announcement has been made by the state government on Wednesday.
TMS, as the singer was fondly called, was born on March 24, 1923 and perhaps, the naming of a road where he resided for many years, is timed for the birth centenary. He passed away in 2013.
His family resides in this blue-washed bungalow on the road.
Mylapore MLA Dha Velu says chief minister M K Stalin will formally open the new road signboard, by remote control from his office in the Secretariat on Friday morning.
The MLA will be present at the new road sign board
TMS became hugely popular for singing the songs in films that starred the top stars of the day – MGR and Sivaji Ganesan.
