Kamala Kasturi, a life-long, dedicated environmentalist and resident of Kasturi Rangan Road, Alwarpet passed away on Feb.20. She was 89 years old.
She was the wife of G. Kasturi, former Editor of The Hindu newspaper.
Kamala Kasturi was the founding member of the Environmental Society, Chennai, started in 1984.
She was deeply involved in many environmental protection projects, including the long campaign to stop dyeing factories from polluting the Cauvery river. Besides this, she was into many ‘green’ projects undertaken in the city and outside. She preferred to keep a low profile.
Her two sons are K. Balaji and K. Venugopal and her daughter is Lakshmi Srinath.
