The annual fest is to begin on January 21, will go till January 25 and will be held in the Chitrakulam.
On Thursday, workers began setting up the base of the float and will complete the work on Friday, adding the decorations and illumination.
People can view the float fest in the evenings from the road side; entry to the tank is possible only on the south side.
There is substantial water in the tank now but some Mylaporeans say that a campaign needs to be undertaken to sensitise shop keepers who trade on the fringe of the tank not to throw waste into the tank. Often, plastic bottles, banana leaves and used flowers are found in the waters.
