Prison Ministry India – Chennai, a body of lay people of the local Church, organised a Family Day for the families of a set of prisoners detained in city jail. The event was held on January 21 at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, San Thome.
Fr Stanley Sebastian, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Madras Mylapore presided .
The chief guest was R. Natraj, former Mylapore MLA.
He distributed provisions to the beneficiaries. Nataraj spoke on his memories when he was the head of the state’s Prisons Department.
Fr G J Anthonysamy, the state coordinator of Prison Ministry India – Tamil Nadu participated. The regional probation officer Sajjad Ahamad along with his team of probation officers participated.
There were 60 families who participated in the programme. Lunch was served.
Fr Varghese Rosario, the coordinator of the Prison Ministry India – Chennai organised this event.
The Prison Ministry members are lay people of various city Catholic Church parishes who visit jails, converse with prisoners and arrange for help they require.
