Madhava Perumal Koil: Mylapore Azhvaar’s 10 day Avathara Utsavam from Tuesday

The annual ten day Avathara Utsavam of Pey Azhvaar, the Vaishnavite saint poet born in Mylapore will take place between October 25 and November 3 at Sri Madhava Perumal temple.

There will be a procession inside the temple in the evening on the first seven days.

On Tuesday Nov 1, the legendary story of Thiru Kovilur where the first three Azhvaars met will be played out with Madhava Perumal along with the first three Azhvaars, Poigai, Bhoothath and Pey Azhvaar going out on a joint street procession in the evening at 7pm

On the penultimate day of the utsavam, on Nov 2, the chariot procession will take place at 9am while Pey Azhvaar will go on a  Pushpa Pallakku around the four streets in the evening at 7pm.

Birthday C=celebrations on Nov 3

On Pey Azhvaar’s birthday on Nov 3, there will be a Thirumanjanam at 10am and street procession at 6pm following which the Prabhandham members will present the final verses of the Divya Prabhandham bringing the utsavam to an end.

It had been a tradition for Pey Azhvaar to visit the Avathara Sthalam on Arundel Street but as reported in Mylapore Times (https://www.mylaporetimes.com/2022/08/pey-azhwar-avathara-sthalam-on-arundel-street-in-dilapidated-state/) the mandapam there is in a dilapidated state and hence the trip there will not take place this year as well.

The Prabhandham members will recite the 4000 sacred verses over the 10 days of the Utsavam.
