The Tamil translation of ‘Srimad Bhagavatham’ book, first published in English by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was released on Friday.
The book release function was held at the Bhavan’s auditorium, Mylapore on July 29 evening. Attended by about 100 people, it was moderated by K N Ramaswamy, head of Bhavan Kendra in Chennai. Scholar and speaker Dr. Sudha Seshayyan was the chief guest. N. Ravi, the chairman of Bhavan in Chennai was also present.
The Tamil translation is by Mythili Swaminathan who is based in Coimbatore. The English version was written by Kamala Subramaniam and is into the 17th edition now, says Ramaswamy.
Dr. Sudha Seshayayan, in her speech said that “Bhagavatham stories are very simple, but their grammar and poetry are very difficult to understand but translator Mythili Swaminathan has easily dealt with this issue in translating this Maha Kaviyam.”
The Tamil book is priced at Rs.400 and is on sale at the Bhavan’s stall on campus ( a 20% dismount is offered till July 31). The English version is also on sale at the stall, priced at Rs.700.
