Many residents were aggrieved, confused and needed clarification on the recent steep hike in GCC property taxes. In order to help these people in their own locality instead of going all the way to GCC Zonal Office, Raja Annamalaipuram Residents Association (RAPRA) arranged for a public hearing by Chennai Corporation officials at the Seventh Main Road Park on July 23.
The Assistant Revenue Officer, Thamizh, Tax Assessor Jayaseelan and Tax CBabu were among the team of officials who interacted with the residents of R A Puram.
25 – 30 residents sought clarifications on the recent hike in their property taxes and some submitted their petitions for further action.
The officials gave a patient hearing and assured the public to look into their petitions which were genuine in nature. They also explained to them how their taxes were arrived based on the street rates. Some used the occasion to pay their taxes.
