Unmindful of the unseasonal rain that blessed Mylapore on Wednesday evening ( July 13), a steady stream of devotees streamed into the Veera Bhadra Swami Temple in Thyagarajapuram for a special occasion.
It was Aani Pournami, the day Lord Shiva provided darshan to Karaikkal Ammaiyar seeking alms from her. In response she handed the two mangoes that her husband had given her earlier in the day.
Hence the event is celebrated as Mangani Vizha.
To celebrate the occasion, Bala Gurukal who has been serving at the temple for three decades performed a two-hour-long fruit decoration alankaram.
Veera Bhadra Swami provided darshan in a Bikshandar Thirukolam decorated with multiple fruits.
Just by his side was Karaikkal Ammayar in an enlightened posture that illustrated a time when she had just seen the Lord.
Devotees at the temple were also delighted to have darshan of the moolavar deity anointed with a beetel leaves garland.
