After a break of two years due to the pandemic, the street procession at the Vaikasi Brahmotsavam began this morning at the Vedantha Desikar Temple with Srinivasa Perumal going around the four streets carried by the Sri Patham Thangis on Pavazhakkal Chapparam.
Earlier in the morning, the flag was hoisted signifying the commencement of the ten day utsavam.
Devotees came out of their homes in good numbers presenting flowers and coconut to Srinivasa Perumal.
A large contingent of the Prabhandham Ghosti led the procession with a presentation of the Iyarpa Verses of the Nalayira Divya Prabhandham.
Vedic scholars followed Srinivasa Perumal through the procession.
On the first evening of the utsavam, Srinivasa Perumal will go on a Simma Vahanam procession starting at 8pm.
Prior to that, at 6.30pm, there will be a Pathi Ulathal display inside the temple complex.
