HR & CE minister Sekar Babu has announced last week that temples in TN would be replenished with wheel chairs based on need after an assessment so as to make sannidhis more accessible to disabled.
At Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple, there are currently two, old wheel chairs lying in a corner near the eastern raja gopuram (seen in the photo).
Temple authorities said that disabled people have been using this facility from time to time.
But it is not clear if temple staff provide seniors these wheel chairs or if there is a system by which seniors who need it can borrow it or if seniors are aware of this facility – since there are no sign boards on this facility.
The chairs look rusted and do not seen to have been in regular use.
