Maids, house helpers and home cooks will get together at the Alphonsa playground on South Canal Bank Road on June 3 evening ( Friday) for a hour-long session of games and fun and then listen to guests speak at a formal meet. Events start at 3 p.m.
This event is organised in connection with International Domestic Workers Day celebrated in June.
Friday’s event is for this community that resides in the San Thome – R A Puram. A few days ago, a similar meet was held for the workers in Mylapore – at a hall in Visalakshi Thottam.
This community is made up of members of Manushi Unorganised Women Workers Progressive Union, supported by CWDR, a city based NGO.
“We have sensitised these workers to their rights, their responsibilities at work places and the benefits they stand to get from the state when they are members of a union,” explains Mary Dhivya of CWDR who is also curating the Friday event.
Local area councillor Amirdavarshini and police inspector Rajeswari of Pattinapakkam station are special guests.
