Bharatanatyam guru late K. J. Sarasa is being remembered and celebrated at a two-day annual festival in Mylapore curated by dancer Shanmuga Sundaram.
The fest is on June 17 and 18 evening at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore.
On Day one, senior dancers who studied under Sarasa present a medley of dances at 5.30 pm. Srekala Bharath, Urmila Satyanarayanan, Sailaja, Lavanya Shanker and Divyatha Arun.
This is followed by an awards function where artistes D V Kanakadurga, dancer and teacher Ananda Shankar Jayant and Kuttalam M. Selvam, nattuvanar will be decorated with awards in the name of K J Sarasa.
Then follows a dance production by Ananda Shankar Jayant.
On Day 2, June 18 – the focus is on male dancers at Nartaka Natyam.
Shanmuga Sundaram starts the evening concerts with dancer A. Lakshmanaswamy at 5.30 pm, followed by a performance by V. P. Dhananjayan, Ramli Ibrahim and Prof. A Janardhanan.
