State officials are keen to ensure that work on new storm water drains specially planned for areas in the city that are badly affected by monsoon rains is keeping to the schedule and will be completed by monsoon time.
Work in Seethammal Colony, off TTK Road in Alwarpet which has been severely flooded during all monsoons, C V Raman Road zone and C P Ramaswamy Road ( north end) is on now; this is where new SWDs are being constructed.
Recently, the IAS officer heading the Municipal Department, Shiv Das Meena visited the workspots on C P Ramaswamy Road, inspected the work and conversed with officers overseeing it.
It appears that the drains from the TTK Road side will connect to the drains on C V Raman Road and C P Ramaswamy Road and Dr Ranga Road, to lead water to the Buckingham Canal.
Currently, work has started on Dr Ranga Road.
