This is one place where you can get a bottle of maavadu pickle at any time of the year. Almost.
Meena Appalams is a nook sandwiched in a row of shops, north of the Sri Anjaneya Temple in Royapettah High Road.
The owner, Ravi will only say that he manages to source the maavadu on a regular basis and prepare the pickle at home which is in Triplicane. How he gets the maavadu and from where, he will not tell you. But he assures you that the pickle is stocked through the year, almost. And it is freshly made from time to time.
A half-kilo bottle costs about Rs.240 and prices vary a bit, both ways. Just now, the maavadu and avakkai pickles are selling fast.
There are pickles of lemon, garlic, tomato, ginger and mahali kizhangu.
The shop also stocks a variety of vathals, appalams, podis and powders and all that is needed in the kitchen.
The store is open 10 am to 1 pm, 5 and 8 pm only and is closed on Sundays.
