After a break of two years, the annual ten-day festival at Velleeswarar Temple in Mylapore will start with the hoisting of the flag between 5.30am and 6.30am on June 5.
Highlights of the festival include Adikara Nandi procession at 6am on June 7, Rishabha Vahanam at 9pm on June 9 and the Chariot procession at 7am on June 11. Thiru Kalyanam will take place between 8pm and 9.30pm on June 14.
“As the utsavam has not taken place over the last two years, we are planning a grand celebration this time. We are repainting all the vahanas, Work is also taking place on the Rishabha Vahana”, S Prabhakaran, Trustee told Mylapore Times on Tuesday morning.
He also said that every evening there will be a Nagaswaram presentation by different troupes from the city.
Another trustee S. Nagarajan said that different varieties of prasadam in large quantities will be distributed every day of the festival. The prasadam is being organised by Mylapore Senkundra Maha Sabha.
Vidayatri Utsavam
As part of the ten-day Vidayatri Utsavam starting June 16, young artistes are being given an opportunity to present a kutcheri every morning from 6pm. In the evening, starting 7.30pm, there will be a Bharatanatyam performance on each of the ten days.
