Three people, including a police constable have been arrested by the Mylapore police for stealing motorbikes seized and kept at the police station on Kutchery Road.
The crime came to light when police at the station noticed that a few bikes seized for various offences were missing from the lot. A probe pointed at two men who had recently tried to tow away one bike from the station campus. They were traced and they are said to have disclosed that they were working alongside a police constable who was working at the Mylapore station.
This constable was also arrested.
The constable had just returned to his workplace after being suspended. He is said to have been an addict to liquor and was in need of money; so he had encouraged the two men to rob the bikes at the station and sell them to scrap dealers for a quick buck.
