Former India coach Bharat Arun has a new assignment now – bowling coach of the IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders.
He has been signed up for the new season. He was till recently, Team India’s bowling coach.
An all rounder from the 1980s, Arun played for India in 1986-87 but his international playing career was
short lived.
15 years later, he donned the role of Head Coach of the TN Ranji team and was ranked by many
in the team as the best man manager that they had seen in a long time.
His team mate from the 1980s Ravi Shastri specifically asked for Arun as the bowling coach of Team India. When Arun’s term ended, he left behind a bunch of fast bowlers regarded as the best in the world.
Outside of IPL, Arun, along with Ravi Shastri and Sridhar, is currently in the process of setting up two
academies – in Hyderabad and Chennai- to strengthen cricket at the grass root level.
Arun’s son Adithya is the CEO of ‘Coaching Beyond’. The team is also coming up with a plan to coach the coaches through a portal that could provide coach education at a nominal cost, said Arun recently.
He is is a resident of R. A. Puram.
