At churches in the neighbourhood, the season of Advent, a season of preparation for Christmas is in the air and in the services held here daily.
It is now a tradition to set up four candles on a decorated stand placed near the altar, symbolising the four weeks of Advent that lead to Christmas. Each week, a candle is lit and so, this Sunday, at the St Thomas Cathedral, two candles were lit at Holy Masses held through the day, signifying the second Sunday in Advent.
At one of the morning Masses this Sunday, archbishop Rev. George Antonysamy was the main celebrant.
This church as well as the others in the neighbourhood are being decorated gradually for the festival.
