The sands of the Marina have become almost an extension of the sea.
The incessant rain the past week filled up much of the sands across most parts of the beach with a huge swathes of water.
So police barricaded access to the service road here from Pattinapakkam to Labour Statue and visitors and walkers had to be content to making use of the pavement here.
Vehicles which use the Marina Loop Road were also disallowed and so San Thome High Road was jam packed at peak hour, with traffic tight and slow moving till about 8 p.m.
It looked a tad eerie, this sandy space in the dark of the night though the lights were burning on the service road.
