Mylapore MLA Dha Velu says he is taking steps to see that the popularly known Alphonso playground of GCC in Mandavelipakkam is cleared of dozens of prefab hawker stalls that GCC ordered for Marina hawkers but had to hold back due to hiccups in this project.
These stalls have been parked here for months and when playgrounds were open to people with the easing of pandemic rules, the local youths who play football and cricket here had nowhere to go.
In the recent rains, the place remained flooded.
And now that the GCC ground near Jesus Calls in R A Puram has been taken over by Chennai Metro for its project, the youths of south Mylapore zone have been deprived of two large grounds.
The MLA says he has taken this issue to the GCC Commissioner and a. senior GCC officer is working on it.
