The Kapaleeswarar Temple authorities on Thursday took possession of the P S School playground that had first been leased by the temple to the school as a 30 year lease in 1928.
This was subsequently renewed for another 21 years.
The school’s court plea for a stay was rejected by the Madras High Court that directed the handing back of the vast ground to the temple. The court also directed using the ground for the benefit of poor school children.
The ground is currently valued at Rs. 276 crores.
The development was highlighted at a media event with the HR&CE minister P K Sekarbabu addressing the media at the ground this evening.
