For this church-based social workers’ group, funds are hard to come by

These are not the best times to ask for donations. Even if the need is for one thousand or two.

The small unit of St. Vincent de Paul Society, a church-based group of social workers of Our Lady of Guidance Church ( popularly known as saint Lazarus church) in R. A. Puram are finding it a challenge to seek money to fund their local outreach programme.

At present, a dozen economically-weak families who belong to this church and are badly hit by the pandemic conditions are being supported by this group. Rations of rice, dhal, sugar and oil are delivered to them.

But the funds are drying up.

Says Praveen, who heads this unit,” Often we have to put money from our pocket. Such is the situation.”
