V. Dinakaran, former physical education teacher, P. S. Snr. Sec. School, Mylapore passed away on 14th April. He was 56.
A passionate and committed teacher and fun loving friend and mentor to his students, the popular Dinakaran joined the school in 1990 and served in the PT department for more than 20 years.
Alumni while expressing sadness, recollected their experiences with ‘Dinakaran Sir.’
Venkatesh from the 1999 batch mentions that he personally intervened with his parents when he was in class XII to ensure he could play for the school team in a prestigious cricket tournament.
That was the first year, when the school won several competitive cricket tournaments, thanks to the mentoring of Dinakaran.
Anand Jayachandran recollects the times between 1995 and ’97, when the school finished runners up in the TNCA schools league tournaments.
Malathi Shivaram fondly recollected how Dinakaran Sir encouraged her daughter to be active in sports.
Dinakaran was an active cricket and hockey player in his younger days and was also very passionate about Ilaiyaraja’s music.
Dinakaran is survived by his wife and two sons Vishnu and Nakul, who stay in Chennai.
