Prasanna Ramaswamy’s new play: Godse theme

Mylapore-based theatreperson Prasanna Ramaswamy is presenting her new play ‘This is My Name’ on April 9 and 11 at Alliance Francaise, Nungambakkam. Text by Paul Zacharia and translation by A. J. Thomas.

Among the actors on stage are Anita Ratnam, Nikhila Kesavan and Dharma Raman.

This is My Name voices Godse’s defense against his assassination of Gandhi. His reasoning rests largely on the ideology he was tutored and principles against secularism. While ‘Godse speak’ rests on facts, Zacharia expands the discourse on Godse’s faith in the singular further by arranging episodes from history those which happened with few other religions, including Christianity, as parallels.
There are two more inter texts woven into the play by Prasanna, one raising a question on the cultural output which has been hydrated by the religious faith and another one looking at how texts are turned into political equipment, both towards layering the discourse.
