Amid the restrictions relating to COVID-19 imposed by the TN Government, the 10-day Vasantha Utsavam for Sri Kapaleeswarar will kick off this Sunday (April 18).
Ahead of the Utsavam, two big mirrors have been set up on the eastern wall near the Saneeswarar Sannidhi. A small tank with plants will be set up on campus in the next few days in time for the Vinayakar Vasantha Utsavam on Saturday ( April 17).
Every morning of the 10-day Utsavam, there will be an abhisekam for Sri Kapaleeswarar, while in the evening there will be a procession inside the temple with Veda Parayanam, Thevaram recital, Mukha veena, Chinna and Periya Melam presentations being an integral part of the evening events.
No Pancha Moorthy street procession
However, devotees will have to miss the Mada Street procession of Pancha Moorthy on Chitra Pournami evening ( April 27) on the 10th and final day of the Kapali Vasantha Utsavam as current restrictions do not allow for street processions in temples in Tamil Nadu and they will have to be contented with the procession inside the temple.
With the summer heat setting in, Vasantha Utsavam is organised to cool the Lord with him going around a small artificial tank set up at the eastern entrance in front of the Thiru Kalyanam Mandapam while listening to music recitals.
