Until a few days ago, this space outside Dharmambal Poonga on Kamarajar Salai, R.A.Puram used to be out of bounds for pedestrians.
For it used to be completely occupied with dozens of haphazardly parked two-wheelers. But it is not so any more.
Chennai Corporation has recently made this a ‘no parking’ zone. The civic body has also fixed information boards to indicate this. Besides, stone slabs are placed here to discourage parking.
Says the Corporation’s AE (Ward 173), under whose control this area falls, “The two-wheeler parking was creating a lot of problems for pedestrians.”
“And as the vehicles used to be parked a few meters inside the road, it was leading to frequent traffic snarls too. Hence, we made it a no-parking zone.”
