With the arrival of rainy season, hawkers have begun selling corn and palmyra sprouts.
This past week, a hawker, had these monsoon special foodstuff for sale at his cart at North Mada Street, Mylapore.
He said, “I have both raw and boiled forms of corn and palmyra sprouts (panamkizhangu) for sale. As people feel good to eat them during monsoon, they are steadily dropping to my shop to buy them.”
“Also, this is the season for panamkizhangu. So people don’t want to miss it,” he added.
A dozen of palmyra sprouts costs Rs 50 at his shop. And boiled corn is priced at Rs 25. He is open for sales in the evenings from around 5 pm to 8 pm.
Corn and palmyra sprouts are also available for sale at hawker stalls at R.K. Mutt Road, South Canal Bank Road, Mandaveli, Loop Road in Marina, besides other places in the neighbourhood.
