The well-known popcorn shop has reopened at the pavement off Royapettah High Road in Luz.
G. Elumalai, son of senior Mylaporean Viruthamba is now running the shop along with his wife Lalitha.
Before the lockdown in March, Viruthamba, used to manage this shop. She was continuing the business, that her husband late Ganapathy first started on this street, some decades ago.
As the shop was around for several years, Viruthamba had also gained customers from all over Chennai. However, post lockdown she had to close the shop.
Says Lalitha, “During the lockdown, we managed a living by selling popcorns to neighbours and well-wishers.”
A few weeks ago, they restarted selling popcorn here. “However, as my mother is a senior, she is prone to the virus. Hence, we have asked her to stay at home. And have taken it on ourselves to run the business,” says Elumalai.
A small packet of popcorn is priced at Rs 10.
The shop is near Vivek’s shop on this road. Open from 5 pm to 8 pm.
