A. Padmapriya, the Corporation animator for Ward 123 which covers, R. A. Puram, Abhiramapuram, C. P. Ramaswamy Road, C. V. Raman Road, East Abhiramapuram and other areas, was busy with coronavirus related work these past few months. She has taken up a new role now. This past week, she was seen handing out pamphlets on waste segregation to the residents of Anand Flats at Ranga Road, Mylapore.
She says, “The residents of this residential complex have been actively segregating plastic for almost a year now. They also expressed their interest in segregation of wet waste. So I decided to spread awareness by talking to them about how it could be done”.
Padmapriya says that arrangements have been made to start collecting wet waste from this complex and neighbouring areas from Sept. 12. “Leftover rice, egg shells, leaves, flower and vegetable waste can be put into a bin and handed over to us. The same will be taken to the compost pit at C. P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet. We are also laying down rings for a compost pit at Ranga Road, we may drop off the wet waste there too”.
