Mandaveli sub-post office will soon start functioning from its new building, located at the junction of Mandaveli Street and R.K Mutt Road, near the Mandaveli market.
The construction of this building was on for the past few months and is almost complete now.
Fitted with red and white slabs on its outer walls, the building has four floors.
Says an official from R.A.Puram post office, “Only minor construction works are pending now. Once that is completed, Mandaveli sub-post office will operate its counters on the first floor of this building.”
Services including opening/closing savings bank account and money order booking will be provided here.
He says that the ground floor will be dedicated to parking two-wheelers/cycles of staff and customers.
And the second and third floors of this building will be occupied by the main delivery office (MDO) of R.A.Puram post office.
“R.A.Puram post office’s delivery unit will also facilitate the delivery of parcels/letters booked at Mandaveli sub-post office.”
The delivery office of R.A.puram post office is shifting here as their current location opposite Mandaveli bus terminus is marked by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for phase 2 project. “However, there is no space at the new building to operate our counters. So, for the time being, they will function from the current location opposite Mandaveli bus terminus,” he says.
The official says that operations will start at the new building from first week of September.
