20 residents of one apartment complex in Bhaktavatsalam Road test ‘positive’, save one all in home quarantine

Recently, 20 people, residing at one apartment complex at Bhaktavatsalam Road, Mylapore have tested positive for coronavirus.

A Chennai Corporation official, who monitors virus containment in this area confirmed this information.

Says the Corporation official, “Initially, a 82-year-old resident of the apartment tested virus-positive. The senior seems to have got the virus from a city hospital, that he used to frequent to get treated for his underlying medical condition. However, he turned positive after the hospital took a virus test prior to treating him.”

Following this, the official says they identified 19 of his close and extended contacts.

“As all were residents of the same complex, the virus had spread to the 19 contacts and they too tested positive. However, all are asymptomatic and are under home quarantine.”

The senior, who first tested positive is treated at a city hospital, the official says.

“Among the residents who tested virus-positive, there are 6 seniors aged above 60 years. As they are more vulnerable, we are closely monitoring them. We are also monitoring others under home quarantine at this complex,” the official said.

“Our workers are also checking their oxygen levels daily,” he sadded.
