Heads of the Jumma Masjid at Kutchery Road, Mylapore are mulling over the idea of re-opening the mosque for the upcoming Bakrid festival.
Says Syed Masood Jamali, Chief Imam, Jumma Masjid, “Bakrid falls on August 1. Now, if the state government lifts lockdown after July 31, and allows religious places to re-open with certain precautions, we may open the mosque for Bakrid prayers with necessary safety measures.”
However, if lockdown is extended, we will have to observe Bakrid at home as we did for Ramzan, he says. “Since lockdown, like everyone, our community too has been praying at home. So now all are wanting to visit the mosque to offer prayers.”
