Every year, on Avani Avittam, hundreds take part in the rituals organised by Kalyana Nagar Association, Mandavelipakkam. This year, due to the lockdown, the association has received permission only for 50 people to assemble at their hall at West Circular Road for the rituals on Aug 3 morning.
The secretary of the association, T. R. Prakash, says, “We started the process of getting the permission about a month ago. A letter was given to the zonal office and the same has been forwarded to the police station at Foreshore Estate and the MLA’s office at Alwarpet”.
There will be only one batch this year at 9 a.m. Social distancing will be ensured and all the participants will wear masks. The registration is now closed for those who want to do it at the hall but the same will be telecast live via Zoom.
