P. Satish Kumar, the owner of Senthil Lending Library at R. A. Puram and Rajeswari Lending Library at Kutchery Road, Mylapore says both the libraries are open for business.
He says, “Before the lockdown, the whole family would come and look for books. Now only one person comes in to get the books. Most of them call us beforehand with a list and we keep the list ready for them to pick up. All children want to do now is to read books. Even if they have read it before they don’t mind reading it again”.
Outside and inside the library, he says, social distancing norms are strictly followed. “Only 4 or 5 people are allowed inside. The rest are asked to wait outside. We will continue to follow these norms till the government changes them”.
He says that customers can borrow books from one branch and return it to another one. They can also pick up books from any branch with their membership card. “We have nine branches all over Chennai, seven of them are open now. Old members can take upto 10-15 books and can keep it for 15 days. We are also enrolling new members now. New members have to pay a refundable deposit of Rs. 500 only. They can take upto four books initially”.
